Items related to the traditional everyday culture of Bukharian Jews in the Russian Museum of Ethnography
Do you know that the collection of the Russian Museum of Ethnography in St. Petersburg includes about 300 items of traditional everyday culture of the Bukharian Jews of the second half of the 19th - early 20th centuries?
However, most of them were acquired only from the mid-1900s.
The exhibits belonging to an earlier time of collection are rare and entered the museum in 1948.
They include a men's suit and three headdresses, which were exhibited at the Polytechnic Exhibition in Moscow in 1872 and were included in the "Turkestan collection", as well as a little more than a dozen exhibits, mainly religious objects, acquired in Samarkand by S.P. Preobrazhensky in 1926.
